Follow the ball through the motion
Look for the rise into the shot, the moment the ball settles near the shooting position, the arm's forward extension and the ball leaving the hand. These landmarks help describe what you're watching. The diagram is a conceptual sequence, not a timing scale or a transcription of the controller menu.
Pick one landmark first. Trying to monitor every part of the motion can make your decision less consistent. A useful cue is one you can identify without pausing the game.
Keep a complete recipe
Record the base, both releases, blend and speed together. A base name on its own doesn't reproduce the animation you were watching. Take another look at the cue whenever you alter those ingredients.
Check availability on the build you're using before following another player's configuration. A visual explanation can help you assess a jumper, but it doesn't establish your build's animation requirements.
Use the feedback after each attempt
Compare the landmark you thought you used with the feedback shown for the shot. Repeat the same type of attempt before making another adjustment. Write down which part of the motion was easy to see and which was obscured.
For Rhythm Shooting, 2K's meter tick adds a reference tied to stick movement. Keep that Tempo information separate from the release landmark and Timing feedback.
Test the cue in your usual possessions
Begin with stationary attempts so the starting point stays consistent. Then keep a separate record for shots after movement or different catches. Return to your usual camera and mode before deciding whether a cue is practical for you.
If you can't see the landmark reliably, choose a clearer one before adding a timing adjustment. The goal is a repeatable observation, not a number borrowed from an unrelated setup.
